COW WELCOMES: Big Deal

Yesterday Big Deal swung by our Manchester store to have a rummage for some vintage gems before they set off to Liverpool for their gig at the Shipping Forecast and also had a spare minute to squeeze in a photo shoot with our photographer Richard

Last night they played Manchester's Night and Day Cafe, with support from Sisters, and today they came up trumps with some real stand out pieces from our shop floor.

Have a listen to their new single whilst you check out the photos below.

SWIM DEEP

Its everybody's favourite indie boy band from B.Town (Birmingham) these boys have come a long way in the past two years and are now hitting the big time.
The boys are regulars at our COW Vintage store in Digbeth and we are glad to see them absolutely smashing it. Playing a host of festival and tonnes of tour dates make sure you get along to hear their infectious indie tunes like 'King City' with their debut album coming out in less than a months time on the 5th Aug

So kick of your shoes and open your ears to the sun
kissed noise of our boys from Brum.

IN GOSLING WE TRUST...

It seems that in recent years, our cinemas have been dominated by the face of one man...
Ryan Gosling.

This summer is no exception.

Nicholas Winding Refn's 2011 'Drive' was coolness personified and the director's next film, landing this August, is another must see. Starring Ryan Gosling, the film takes us to the criminal underworld of Bangkok in a dark tale of deception and revenge.. sound like your cup of tea?

Give the trailer a viewing and you'll see what were shouting about!

The Bling Ring Ting...

Have you ever wanted to commit a high-fashion heist?

Well the latest film from 'Lost In Translation' director Sofia Coppola offers a unique insight into Hollywood and the perils of stardom, following a group of rich L.A teens who take it one step further....

Based on true events and starring Emma Watson, the film is an exploration into the excess of fame and celebrity culture with all the consequences.

The Bling Ring is currently showing at all good cinemas, so take a loved one and go watch it.

Dot to Dot Festival X PINS

Alongside our Competition to win tickets for you and a friend to attend the Dot to Dot Festival this month we are talking to some of our favourite bands that we look forward to watching there! Today we got hold of the babes from PINS and chat about what they're working on, who they are excited about seeing at Dot To Dot Festival, the best and worst thing they have ever bought at a festival and more!

HIYA LADIES! X
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN GOING FOR NOW?

Faith - "The current formation of PINS has been since January this year. We got a new drummer, Sophie. Before that I can't remember."

WHAT ARE THE PINS GIRLS WORKING ON AT THE MINUTE?

Faith - "Singing, dancing, pretending to be film stars and we've just finished recording an LP, it'll be out later in the year."

WHAT'S THE BEST GIG YOU'VE EVER PLAYED?

Faith - "We played a Christmas show at the Bunker in Manchester last December, that was special. I have a good time wherever we play but the ones we curate ourselves stand out more to me. Saying that, we opened for British Sea Power a couple of weeks ago, it was Sophie's second show with us and we played a bunch of new songs to hundreds of strangers, it was really fun!"

Lois - " Yeah I think the Christmas one for me too. All the Bunker shows have been amazing, it was cool to be able to put our own."

HOW DO FEEL ABOUT PLAYING DOT TO DOT? HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE?

Faith - "This is our first time, we're playing all three cities so I'm looking forward to it."

Anna - " I've been a couple of times. If I think back to the first time I went and I was dreaming of being in a band... I guess things have gone pretty well since then to be playing all three festivals days this year!"

WHAT OTHER BANDS ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCH AT D2D?

Faith - "Swim Deep come up in our conversations a lot for one reason or another so I'd like to see them in real life. Other than that, I don't know. I like Best Friends so I'll try and catch them."

Lois - "Yeah excited, hoping to see Deap Vally and Wolf Alice."

Anna - "Hoping to catch Deap Vally, Lucy Rose and The 1975. I went to school with those boys and haven't seen them since the Drive like I do/ Big Sleep Days."

WHAT'S PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE AND WHERE WILL PINS BE AFTER THE FESTIVAL?

Faith - "We have a couple more shows in the UK and EU left after Dot to Dot then a few festivals in the Summer, come and see us!"

Lois - "End of the Road at the end of August should be cool."

WHAT IS YOUR FESTIVAL FASHION MUST HAVE?

Faith - "Sunglasses"

Lois - "Hotpants"

Anna - "A kigu"

WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING YOU EVER BOUGHT AT A FESTIVAL?

Faith - "Best and worst thing would be mushroom chocolate"

Lois - "Vintage shirt for £5 best and worst is Fosters"

Anna - "The best and worst thing I considered buying at a festival was a 'Nobody knows I'm a Lesbian t-shirt."

WHAT IS THE BEST THING YOU'VE FOUND IN A VINTAGE STORE?

Faith - "I got some really cute shoes from COW last year, I wore them until they fell off my feet. Apart from that I tend to collect boys t-shirts."

Lois - "Loads of things.. Gonna go with my fringed shirt though."

Anna - "My huge black fur coat from Ryan Vintage in Manchester. I lived in it, it kept me toasty on two visits to Iceland in Winter. Also I like that people nuzzle into me like a cat. Cute."

Meet The Team!

We know there is a lot of love out there for our stores and the website and we'd like to share with you how COW came about, who thought of that name, how we do things and what goes on behind the scenes! So from now on we will be uploading short interviews with the staff you may not see in stores and find out the hard work that goes into making COW what it is today.

RICHARD MANNING- WEB MANAGER

WHAT'S YOUR USUAL DAY LIKE?

After checking all emails and replying to customers about orders and queries I will sort and organise the new orders. I am in charge of photographing all new product for the website which is updated daily, I aim for at least 20 items a day. As well as running the website and customer communications I will also be constantly checking our Twitter feed, Facebook and Tumblr to make sure I can reply to people, upload the newest images and share what's going on with everyone else.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

Receiving thank you letters, messages and emails from customers who have purchased from the website and are very happy with everything. It all takes quite a lot of time so to know people appreciate it and get what they want is great for me.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COW?

I would say the individual pieces you can find in store and online for such a reasonable price. The stores are easy to shop and you know no one will ever been seen in the same outfit as you.

WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT FOR 2013?

I want to be doing loads more photo shoots and look books. We are also planning to expand the website and we will be sharing it all with our friends, followers and customers!

Things To Come..

.. 2013 is going to turn out to be a very eventful year. Our diaries are already filling up with exciting new movies, exhibitions, gigs and more. Here are a few things we are looking forward to attending over the next few months.

THE GANGSTER SQUAD - in cinemas January 11th 2013

Set in LA in 1949 this Gangster movie is first on our list to see this January. With Sean Penn running the shots through the streets, eye candy cops Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin trying to keep him in line and the red head love interest played by Emma Stone, there is definitely plenty of action to wake you up from the January blues. We are also looking out for the classic 1940's zoot suits, glamour and vintage style that comes with this movie.

LONDON FASHION WEEK - London - February 15th - February 19th 2013

Here at COW we love vintage and retro clothes and accessories but as a fashion lover you can't ignore the drama and excitement through London Fashion Week. We will be sure to be checking blogs, watching twitter feeds and hopefully sending people to some shows to keep up to date with what next big trend is coming through for Autumn/ Winter 2013. This gives us the chance to make sure we are picking the best pieces for our stores and online for you to filter these trends and pick up the style for less.

DAVID BOWIE IS - Exhibition at the V&A - 23rd March - 28th July 2013

We can guarantee a COW road trip to London for this one. A retrospective of the work and life of David Bowie. The show compiles over 300 objects from the legend's career including instruments, hand written lyrics, costumes, photography and much more. As a major influence in Fashion and Music and also a bit of a weird heartthrob for all young girls whilst watching The Labyrinth this will be a great exhibition to spend time with friends, family or on your own taking in all of the wonder that this man projects.

THE GREAT GATSBY - in cinemas - 10th May 2013

Well what can we say.. It's finally here. Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher all come together head to toe in 1920's attire. With a story line based around loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings as well as the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits, what could go wrong. We can only wait in anticipation of probably one of the most super stylish movie releases this year by shining up our pearls and polishing up on our Charleston.

Keep your eye out for other events we want to share with you on here, twitter and facebook and let us know what you're most excited about!
