BIG DEAL X WE ARE COW

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Alice and Kacey from the group
BIG DEAL at this years Beacons Festival.
You may have previously seen our posts and tweets about their album 'June Gloom
we adore these dreamy rock vibes and beautiful male-female harmonies.

I snapped at the chance of grabbing a few shots and fired a few questions at the duo.
Here is what they had to say.
Enjoy.

All photos by our photographer Richard Manning.

HOW WAS THE REST OF YOUR BEACONS FESTIVAL? DID YOU MANAGE TO CATCH MANY BANDS WHILST YOU WHERE THERE.
KC: Unfortunately we had to drive back that afternoon so we didn't get to see a whole lot, but we managed to see Thumpers and get in a wrestling match with Drenge.
BIG DEAL - DREAM MACHINES
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVAL /GIG MOMENT?

ALICE: We played a festival in Cornwall and we all slept in the back of our van together. It was an awesome drunken slumber party. We were worried it was going to be horrible but it was really fun.

WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO TOUR WITH?
KC: Arcade Fire. It would be scary to know they are coming on after you, but amazing to see them every night.
ALICE : MGMT. They are amazing, and we'd probably have a lot of fun with them. I'm also in love with Andrew VanWynGarden so that'd be an extra perk.

 HOW DID YOU MEET PAWS

ALICE: I can't exactly remember, but it was something to do with swapping one of our bands t-shirts for one of theirs. They stayed in my house for a while when they were in London and we ate eggs and soldiers every morning but because they're scottish they would smash up the shells with their spoons after so the 'little witches can't use them as boats to come and get you.' Very strange scottish superstitions  Anyway we've been friends ever since. They've also made one of our favourite records of the last two years.

BEST PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU BOTH OWN?

KC: My zelda shirt. It's been washed so many times no one can tell what it is. But i know.

ALICE: A pair of grey jeans that i love so much but are nearly too broken to wear, the waist band is held together with a piece of ribbon that my mum sewed in.

BEST BUY FROM A VINTAGE STORE?

ALICE: When we were in Joshua Tree we went to all the thrift stores, where if you search you can find the most amazing vintage clothes all for under $5. I bought three pairs of levi's jeans for $8. Kc found an amazing shirt with the sun and moon on that he wore for the ' in your car' video because we were trying to go for a fear and loathing in Las Vegas kind of look and we thought it looked like something Johnny Depps character would wear.

BIG DEAL - IN YOUR CAR

TOP 3 DESERT ISLAND DISCS?

KC: Beatles - White Album / Nirvana - Nevermind / Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

YOUR BEST RECORDS OF 2013 SO FAR?
KC + ALICE: Mac de Marco 2 / Yeah Yeah Yeah's Mosquito / Drenge, Drenge,

BEST CITY YOU HAVE BEEN TO?
ALICE: We played in this city an hour outside of Venice called Sesto al Reghena and the gig was in a huge castle courtyard called Piazza Castello. There were old nuns all dressed in white habits cycling around as we sound checked and as it got dark tables and chairs were set up for everyone with candles everywhere. It was insane.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO FULL BAND?
KC: It's just more fun. Even solo artists perform with a band, otherwise its just too hard to engage an audience with such quiet music.

HOW DID YOU MEET MEL AND HUW?
ALICE: The last band they were in were on the same label as us, Mute Records. Mute did a small european showcase thing where they put three of their bands on a tour bus together and organised shows for them in each city they woke up in and when there's 16 of you sharing a living space you get pretty close pretty quickly.

A new hope for KOL?

Remember when KOL look like this? And sounded like this

Ahh the good ole days, they feel like a long time ago and thats cause they kinda are but good news people it looks like they have taken a positive step backwards from the stadium rock mush that they have been producing of late and moved towards the earlier muffled vocals, snappy base lines and sharp guitars of Youth and Young Manhood & Aha Shake heartbreak.
Although the title of the single 'Supersoaker' is pretty... well unexciting it does seem to be ticking far more boxes than anything from their last studio album (what was it called?) oh yea 'Come Around Sundown'.

Are we seeing a new dawn to KOL?

I suppose we will have to wait and see until the new album 'Mechanical Bull' is released on the 24th September.

Until then Enjoy the Single.

Ralph Lauren.. Then and Now

Ralph Lauren is a household name and any fashion enthusiast will know it is a Brand with some serious history. We see the Ralph Lauren Polo logo daily in COW and today we have chosen to look back at Ralph Lauren, who he is and what he has created.

For us here at Cow we are very used to seeing the Ralph Lauren emblem on men's and women's shirts which are often played around with by our Rework team. We are always receiving these styles and they are usually transformed from the regular shirt into mini dresses with elasticated waists or the more recent cropped elasticated version.

Looking back at how the brand started and the way it has grown into such an incredible designer label we are lucky to have this brand in our stores and online.
It all began with the man, they call, Ralph Lauren. Born in 1939 from the Bronx, he didn't enjoy studying much and dropped out of college where he had been studying Business. Ironic, eh? He joked in his year book statement that he was going to be a millionaire and then went on to establish and grow a multi-billion dollar corporation starting with selling ties to his fellow students.

It wasn't until 1970 when we were first introduced to the classic Polo emblem which was sewn onto the sleeve of jackets from his first ladies suit collection tailor made in the same way as a man's suit would be made.  He hit a rough patch in 1987 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He underwent serious surgery and came out the the other side with full health and made a full recovery.

Ralph Lauren then went on to open stores internationally, design Ready To Wear Collections season after season and gain well deserved respect in the Fashion Industry. He is still going strong today and we must say not looking too bad for an older gent with a lot of years of experience behind him.

Young Ralph, looking pretty darn handsome and cool!

Older Ralph, looking very dapper and pleased!

Check out our versions of the Ralph Lauren classic pieces on our website here.

Legs Eleven

There was a gasp of surprise, horror and excitement when our delivery arrived containing a whole batch of leg warmers. The aim of the leg warmer is that it does exactly what it is meant to.. keep your legs warm and that is great for those who like to layer up and snuggle into some heavy knitwear, gloves, scarves and winter accessories. We have had to separate our styles into cosy, practical winter wear and loud, colourful 80's leg warmers.

If you feel like the bright, neon, sports, '80s Fame style pairs are more for you then we salute you. Like most of our product in store, we cater for all so this can't be any different. Though if you are looking for that other layer for these freezing cold mornings or you do fancy the perfect fancy dress accessory, you know where to come and find it!

We have tried them both and can highly recommend a good warm up in the correct attire to this playlist!
