WEEKS OF FASHION

From New York, London, Milan and Paris the hottest fashion pack have been travelling round the world following the next big thing! The shows that ran over the last 4 weeks have been full of the newest designers and trends that will have everyone talking till next season. It's just turned Autumn to us lot but some people live to pre-order straight from the catwalks and probably have cramp from tweeting #FW so much!

Here we have a quick recap of the shows and have pulled out the Summer trends we can expect to see in stores, billboards and glossy mags for the next season. We will keep going back to these too and also taking a look at what people were wearing to the shows. 

THE TRENDS:

- SCRAPBOOKING
There were a few shows that included some looks with a real home made feel. Looks that reminded us of that perfect feeling when you finish a full sketchbook and you have fabric samples hanging out, threads and scrap paper stuck to it.
We all love a good clashing print but these looks were like clashing prints, textures, colours and text all thrown together with some pva glue, Art Attack style and we love it!!

- SHINY WHITES
It's Summer so there for white is a colour of choice and you won't get away without seeing some fresh white looks in the shows. This season those white pieces were brought to life with interesting fabrics that were layered, structured, sheer, silky and technical and the tone definitely held it's own throughout all shows.

- SHRINK TO FIT
Denim is a great fabric for the Summer and this year the designers have decided to dress it all up all prim and proper like. There is no sign of a shredded pair of jeans, salvage or decoration this season (apart from Ashish), just clean lines and fitted denim. Denim is probably the best fabric ever so we are going to be pulling all of ours out again.

- SICKLY SWEET 
Sorry folks but it looks like the pastel colour palette is also going to be around for the next season. The amount of pastel, candyfloss looks that were included in numerous collections proved that it is stuck here like bubblegum.

CBGB - The Movie

There is a lot of excitement around for the new CBGB movie release this Autumn. You may have heard of that tiny little venue called CBGB's in New York City which opened in 1973 and gave a home to all of the newest bands around at that time. These bands were either unheard of or making waves in the music scene but ended up shaping a very important time in music. CBGB's became a place for punks, renegades, rockers and metal heads to go and see new bands, get drunk, make a mess, cause havoc, make friends, have fights, pick up girls and other general 'Rock N Roll' fun times.

Some of the first people to play there and create such havoc, building a name for themselves and the venue were The Ramones, Misfits, Television, Patti Smith Group, Blondie, The Cramps, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Voivoids and Talking Heads to name a few. Bands that we love and who inspired the bands we love now because they were the original bad attitude and controversial bands that are so hard to recreate nowadays.

The venue became the place to go and we kind of wish we were born earlier and lived in New York to see it all happening. Even to this day there has probably been no cooler place with such an iconic name and reputation for such an amount of time. 

So naturally if this is the kind of stuff that makes you want to drink straight Jack Daniels, rip some clothes off, start a band, then you probably want to keep your eye out for the release date of this movie! Here is a sneaky trailer to get you in the mood.

NY Diary #3 Brooklyn Flea & Brunch

So we have sunday car boots, muddy football fields  and Ducktales on VHS. Yeh it's ok and yes everything tends to be under a fiver, you will probably make at least one friend over 70 and leave with a niggling feeling that you should have bought that teapot. Brooklyn's different, like you see in films there are very few fields in the city and when there is they're massive and cornered off and quite often have a zoo in or at least a small menagerie. So instead of the car boot they have flea which is a cool way of saying lush boutique stores under a canopy in a playground. They're amazing, copious amounts of delicious food from company's all over the city appear, I have massive love for Dough the best Doughnut stand, EVER. They're huge, incredible and coated in the best sort of icing you could imagine. The Flea see's tents selling intentional worn denim, beautiful lace dresses. Vibrant 60's kitchen everythings, Star wars figures vs Trolls, little tin things I'm not sure what for even vintage fairground parts. And the best thing about all these things is the variety of gorgeous people that it attracts.

NY Diary #2 Williamsburg Brooklyn. 14th Street

Williamsburg with its bevy of babes, allures in artists, musicians and the relaxed cool of the city, with its Block Party’s, fleas and beautiful views. Based on the outskirts of Brooklyn it mixes the old docks, factories and industrial red brick buildings, like those seen on Boardwalk Empire which is filmed just around the corner at Greenpoint with modern boutiques, thrift stores and tasty eateries. With a hung-over belly and Air con on the mind the main focus for Sunday Williamsburg goers is food, more importantly brunch.  Five leaves is the first port of call with tattooed, short fringed babe waitresses and equally lush chef’s it is uber popular, the Que is crazy, but the hour wait is worth it.

 This Sunday we had a random awesome find, along 14^th street was the BORED STROKED PORTED Block party , Hosted by New York City Vintage Motor show, The streets filled with the hottest most shinniest Bikes, gorgeous bikers and live music of the metal variety.

 

At Cow, Denim is one of our fundamental staples, it goes with everything it lasts for almost ever and girls and guys look equally hot in it. America loves it and definitely knows how to make it good, so we source all of ours from here. Notably Williamsburg loves it just as much, whether worn with a graphic tee,grungy shirt or something a little more western we sell them all at cow. While summer comes to a close we see the beginnings of layering pieces, combining cute raw edge shorts, with kimono, crop and boots.Or maybe just a simple denim jacket for late nights.

WE ARE COW // NY Diary #1 Rockaway

This summer sees COW VINTAGE state side, sourcing all the lush vintage pieces for in-store and online. We totally want to pick up on the New York Vibes, showing you what inspires us and the random things that happen all over the city. Whilst its hot hot hot in the UK and you guys are still stocking up on swimmys and our super cute short shorts we checked out Rockaway Beach, surf central and taco heaven.

When the Air Con isn't enough, New Yorkers head to the ocean, with tons of beaches a subway ride away.

The Rockaway Beach essentials, surfboard, as it appears without that you're not allowed in the sea and the life guards get pretty intense with the whistles, so some decent ear plugs wouldn't go a miss either.

Sunscreen you don't do crispy in NY, which is also a song played frequently in the Cow Sheffield store and pretty much the best song EVER.

Style, keep it simple and bright, you want your friends to be able to find you amongst the gazillion of bikini babes and also changing back into your underwear is a nightmare in anything complicated, we've definitely seen some interesting towel hugging, getting changed moves.

In the pics .. Ariel ...yep thats his real name AMAZING !!! wears a wild Hawaiian print shirt over his diving suit...erm yes please!!! Surf conscious and on trend. 

Arjun and Tanya do beach romance in earthy tones and animal prints, keeping it simple.

The girls, its best to wear little when eating a taco, it could get messy. In Love with 90's caps and Neon Rucksacks, bleached hair and of course if you've got it flaunt it in a retro swimmy.

Lu makes beach to street style look effortless, it's all in the print silk pumpkin pants. 'they're just so cute right? my friend got them me today' we think they're lush and look super cute with a strappy crop .
