FLASHBACK: GOOD GIFTS GONE BAD

As you may have noticed the Christmas hype is getting pretty serious as we start to approach the 1st December. We have our own kind of gift ideas being vintage lovers and employees. We are thinking handmade and reworked flannel/denim twin set with matching scrunchie, cropped knitwear with matching scrunchie, handmade hair bows and head bands, mittens and beanies with bows on are probably what we will expect to share out with our loved ones this year.

You can't go wrong with one off gifts that have been lovingly made with recycled fabrics and you will definitely avoid the embarrassment of opening the same thing as someone one else on Christmas morning. This got us thinking about some of the gifts that people would receive every year and have to force out that pretend 'Thank you' to those clueless family members who probably just shouldn't have bothered.. The 80's was a particularly wonderful time for bad gifts, and hair, because there were no online wishlists or facebook you could share and make sure you get what you really want. Even though we kind of loved them at the time, theses items are mere car boot compost now.

Here are some of our favourite unwanted gifts and awkward Christmas mornings of the 80s and 90s.

Don't get caught out this year and be prepared. Visit WWW.WEARECOW.COM or pop into your nearest store for the best gifts this Christmas!

FLASHBACK: Old School Super Babes

With all of the Spring/Summer '14 Fashion Weeks coming to a close in Paris we have a lot to go over and start to pull out the next season trends to make sure we are looking for the items, colours, styles and fabrics you want to be wearing next season.

For now though we are Flashing backwards to the 80's and 90's when the word Supermodel was a big deal and there was a lot of flashing. Where the same top Supermodels would have been in all of the biggest shows and designer campaigns!

We will never forget the classic icons like Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Naomi Cambell, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangalista, Christy Turlington and Tyra Banks to name a few. Here are our favourite High Fashion images when supermodels were 'IT' and photographers loved to group them up and make them huddle together to get that timeless pic!

Oh Versace, Guess.. Chain, leather, denim, white tees and caps. Love!

PLAY LOUD: FKA Twigs

She's caught our eye in the press with her super 90's hair do, decorative earrings and big red lips but after listening to more from FKA Twigs we decided she's not just a pretty face and works that look in with her angelic voice softly drizzled over a mix of electronic and R&B.

The 25 year old originally from Gloucestershire is residing in London but says "she likes to keep herself to herself". This might be how she can pull off an almost sinister sounding song backed up by noises of ticking clocks with bashing cymbals but also make it sound quite pop.
The up-coming star was recently shot for the cover of the Youthful Issue of i-D Magazine and she looks very comfortable as she is not even styled too heavily but just oozes cool!

We will definitely be keeping our eyes and ears out for what she's up to and await an album release! For now though we'll just sit back and chill out to a few of our favourites so far.

FLASHBACK: Power Couple Britney and Justin

After so much controversy this week with the VMA's hosting the twerking fiasco and foam finger action we are looking back to a much more innocent time when people were just young and happy and double denim outfits were the most controversial topics.
Today our Flashback is the original couple of smiles Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. The pair met at a very young age at the Mickey Mouse Club and with butter wouldn't melt faces and cute as a button personas they hit our TV screens with their dance routines and bad acting which led to their music careers in the early 90's.

It wasn't until 1999 when they actually got together and shared all of their love for one another openly with magazine deals, public displays of affection at Award Ceremonies and sports games. They were totally ahead of the times with their in fashion sportswear and if only we could all have his and hers "Stinky and Pinky" personalised  basketball vests!

They publicly broke it off in 2002 (who cried?) Then Justin went off to write the Number One hit Cry Me A River and was quoted by telling audiences "Sometimes in life, you think you found the one. But then one day you find out that she is just some bitch," OUCH! Bit harsh Justin!

The couple live on in our hearts and also quite heavily on Tumblr but we will never really get over our first love for the 90's super couple. Long live Brustin!!

NY Diary #2 Williamsburg Brooklyn. 14th Street

Williamsburg with its bevy of babes, allures in artists, musicians and the relaxed cool of the city, with its Block Party’s, fleas and beautiful views. Based on the outskirts of Brooklyn it mixes the old docks, factories and industrial red brick buildings, like those seen on Boardwalk Empire which is filmed just around the corner at Greenpoint with modern boutiques, thrift stores and tasty eateries. With a hung-over belly and Air con on the mind the main focus for Sunday Williamsburg goers is food, more importantly brunch.  Five leaves is the first port of call with tattooed, short fringed babe waitresses and equally lush chef’s it is uber popular, the Que is crazy, but the hour wait is worth it.
This Sunday we had a random awesome find, along 14th street was the BORED STROKED PORTED Block party , Hosted by New York City Vintage Motor show, The streets filled with the hottest most shinniest Bikes, gorgeous bikers and live music of the metal variety.

At Cow, Denim is one of our fundamental staples, it goes with everything it lasts for almost ever and girls and guys look equally hot in it. America loves it and definitely knows how to make it good, so we source all of ours from here. Notably Williamsburg loves it just as much, whether worn with a graphic tee, grungy shirt or something a little more western we sell them all at cow. While summer comes to a close we see the beginnings of layering pieces, combining cute raw edge shorts, with kimono, crop and boots.Or maybe just a simple denim jacket for late nights.
